My AGS Reflection
Throughout my time in the Academy of Global Studies, I've learned and grown every year in huge amounts. I came into Austin High from a very small private all girls' school - my 8th grade class was only 5 girls. As I entered my freshman year, I was so glad to be a part of AGS. In all my AGS classes, everyone was talkative and interested in the subjects we were learning, and the teachers were engaged. Having all my classes with a group of the same people helped me to make new friends, and because of AGS I was able to manage the difficult transition into such a large environment. I'm so grateful to have had the experiences I've been able to have through AGS, such as travel. I've also learned how to work with others through the many group projects I've done in AGS, and this has been very helpful to me in other aspects of my life. Though it was often difficult to work with others on major projects, I appreciate the experiences I've had, because they've taught me how to successfully collaborate with others.
Reflection Over My Volunteer Experiences
I did a lot of different service work outside of school throughout my four years in AGS. Most recently, I've participated in the Austin Animal Center's shelter dog walking program, a shoot for which the proceeds went to the program Austin Angels, and a Feed My People Homeless Breakfast. These activities help a wide array of different communities and people. The one that was the most important to me was the shoot that I participated in for Austin Angels. I volunteered my time to shoot five Christmas card type mini-shoots for different families in return for donations to Austin Angels. The organization ran this shoot, and I was really happy to get to donate my time and talents to help. Usually I don't get to do something I love while volunteering, but doing volunteer portraiture was really fun.
